Contest promotions are offered by many online retailers and retail locations, and by charitable organizations offering contest promotions to entice people to make donations in exchange for the opportunity to win a contest or sweepstakes prize. 

Contest promotions start at the community level and are readily available in street fairs, county fairs, local retail shops, and even middle school baseball teams. These contest promotions often involve the purchase of a raffle ticket. The contest involves a drawing which results in a prize. These prizes could include free meals at local restaurants, a free haircut, or a piece of jewelry, a riding lesson or any one of a variety of other prizes. At this level contest prizes are usually donated by local companies who wish to advertise their business and get you through the door with a free promotional gift in hopes you will return and do business with them again. 

At the regional level, car dealership chains, and chain restaurants offer drawings or even contest promotions that allow you to win a year of products or a discount on their products. The contest may be based on a drawing or being the hundredth customer through their door. Regional radio stations offer contest promotions to win cash or promotional products. Concert promoters partner with radio stations to offer free tickets to upcoming concerts. To win these promotions, a listener may only need to call in to the radio station and be the tenth or the twentieth caller. It might stress out your dialing finger but there is no upfront monetary investment and that’s a good thing.

Buy a raffle ticket or register for a fundraiser dinner and your ticket may be drawn. These contest promotions allow charitable and not-for-profit organizations to spend a little money on food, charge a lot for the evening and partner with individuals or companies to offer free tickets to a holiday ball, dinner with a local celebrity, a free round of golf or lesson with a golf pro, and even a car.  

Contest promotions are designed to make money for business growth, get visibility for a retailer or organization or make money for a charity or non-profit fundraiser. The free products offered in the promotion are tempting enough to make you buy the lottery or raffle ticket, listen to the radio station and improve their ratings, or buy a complementary or additional product to generate more business revenue. If the prize of entry for the contest promotion is a dollar, or even ten dollars, you may want to give it a shot.
